“One artist, whose work stayed with us for a long time, is Diana Postel.  Her paintings are both vibrant and insouciant, and almost always evoke a smile, perhaps because of the bold use of colors, the placement of objects, or the attitude of the subjects.  … It is a wish come true that not just one, but two, of Ms. Postel’s paintings are included in this exhibition.”

“Opening the Fall season (September, October 2001) and representing the very best of painters that we have in store for our constituents at Synchronicity Fine Arts is an exhibition of recent paintings by Diana Postel. Postel has exhibited with Synchronicity in recent years to outstanding critical review and has been extremely well received by the art community at large.  Her work has been compared to the likes of Milton Avery and Henri Matisse.  Although her work is not derivative of these painters, she is strongly influenced by the likes of Matisse and Picasso.  There are elements of abstraction that are not deconstruction but acutely designed sensations that delineate the essence of a still life, figure or landscape in a poetic context.  Ms Postel practices an economy of space and line in that she simplifies that which is verbal and focuses on what is visual and sensuous.  Like Matisse, Postel seeks to create a balance between light and color and a continuity between texture and form.  She is a master draftsperson who seeks unity and understated subtlety, never sacrificing the poetic metaphor for the literal representation.  Diana Postel has been an artist in residence at Synchronicity Fine Arts since our origins in Soho.  She has had a strong presence among the artists we represent and is widely respected among her peers and critics alike.”

Ms. Postel presents representational oils and mixed media works on paper. Her colorful still lifes and figure drawings are spontaneous, and display an ample use of pattern. Ms. Postel, who tends to draw with her paintbrushes, studied with Norman Raeben in New York.

Diana Postel's vibrant laying on of color is matched by her strong, articulate line to produce explosive, vital canvases of still lifes and figures.

Diana Postel's representational, emotional work focuses on still lifes, human figures and faces. The artist puts a premium on spontaneity when facing a canvas.
